23 May Artful Desperado
There’s the moment when I found out one of my biggest inspirational food stylist posted on his Instagram that he’s hosting a workshop in Vancouver. I was totally O.M.G and overly excited. Like I have no clue that he’s a local even I have followed his work for so long. Gabriel from Artful Desperado is truly talented and always inspires my food photography.
The workshop is taken place in a cute little shop just slightly off Chinatown – The London Fields Shoppe. Abundance of adorable home accessories and stationery that I would want to take them all back home. We were invited to grab whatever we like and style our own photoshoot. As you see I love the wool trivet so much and incorporate it into both of my styled product shoots. I’m always very chilled in doing food photography, working with time pressure and various unfamiliar props were such a challenge to me. Pulling the photoshoot off in 10mins was not an easy task. But yes, it’s very good experience to train me to work with a different environment and new way of time management. Next, of course we have to photograph FOOD and we were provided with fruits and props to take pictures with. Being as a self taught photographer and food stylist, I’m most interested to hear about how the professional work and how’s the real industry like. Very interesting to hear about how Gabriel works with his clients and some easy tricks we can apply to our day to day food photography. Again, meeting with my inspiration is priceless. I wish I have more time to chat with Gabriel next time, he’s absolutely a cool and fun person to be around.
