Something Old Something New
I’m mixing old with new items from my closet today. The old item I’m wearing is the black wool coat that I purchased from Aritzia for over 10 years ago. The coat is amazingly well made and design is timeless; I manage to keep it in my closet for over a decade. One lesson to share, don’t throw away your nice quality outerwear! Great quality pieces should travel with you for years to come. Otherwise you have to pay 3x the price for lesser quality now.
Mansur Gavriel Mini Bucket
I follow the up and coming contemporary designers – Mansur Gavriel for a while and fall for their simple and chic design aesthetic. I love their signature bucket bag so much with minimal hardware and bright lining. You can choose different combination and I got the black/flamma mini bucket. I simply adore the clean look!!! So easy to throw on, goes with everything and makes you look effortlessly chic. Price tags for designer bags are insanely high these days, I give thumbs up for this Made in Italy full natural vegetable tanned leather bag for staying below $500 USD.
The leather is rather stiff and I believe it takes some time to break in, but I can totally compromise and won’t mind to beat it up to get the leather soften. The size is decent and roomy. It fits a long waller, mobile phone, keys, cosmetic bags and even a small water bottle. There’s one time I can actually fit a pair of jeans inside. The regular size bucket bag does come with a pouch but mini bucket does not. I’m not sure why but with $30 more, you may consider getting the regular size bucket bag. I love the size of mini better and I’m about 5″4 tall. Large bags never work on me and I’m very satisfied with the look overall. My biggest concern is you can easily slip you hand in and the bag is NOT secure. I have to use a separate pouch as “compartment” for my daily essentials like wallet and cell phone. The leather is matte and I can tell it’s gonna be prone to scratches. It kinda reminds me of some of the Celine bags (ie Belt Bag)….with the same kind of structured smooth matte leather, not very susceptible to scratches.
How to get it
The bag is extremely difficult to get and all their bags were sold out in 2 hours on their official website. My advice is to follow their instagram, facebook and twitter, they will announce the launch date in about 2 weeks in advance. The next one is coming up in March 19 2015.
Another tip: they release new stock to online shop at around 11am PST. That’s from my last experience back in December. Please also get your Paypal account ready, I have tried multiple times with Mastercard and they couldn’t authorize the transaction. I have to use my Paypal at the end. Please note they do charge shipping whilst most other online retailers (ie Net-A-Porter) don’t.
Forward by Elyse Walker have the regular bucket bags in stock now!!! Hurry before they get sold out again!!! There’s always some random styles here and there, check back some time later if you miss them.
Net-A-Porter carries the mini/regular size bucket bags and you can add it to your wishlist. They will send you email when they restock the item. I have also added mini bucket on their wishlist before and it was never restocked for the last 4 months or so. I got it from the official site at the end. I have heard others were able to get the regular size in December.
Steven Alan also let you add to the wait list and I did receive an offer to their regular bucket bags in November. I didn’t get it as they didn’t have the mini size for pre-order.
Bergdorfgoodman have pre-order for select items and do check the site from time to time, sometimes they restock particular popular styles.
Barneys New York have the Saffiano version in stock and some other items for pre-order.
The Line – currently out of stock but subscribe to their email list for restock notification.
Over the Knee Boots
OTK boots from Stuart Weitzman are investment pieces ($600+) and I have waited for these Mainline OTK to go on sale (50% off $320~). Taking a closer look at all different models of SW boots, you will realize the shaft height varied from one model to another. The original 50/50 , Reserve, Fifo and Semi are 21″, Mainline are 19″, Demiswoon only have 18″, Lowland and Highland are 24″. The pair I got should be perfect for petite ladies under 5″4, the shafts just hit right above my knees. I like the height of 50/50 a little better….give another 2 inches above the knees but I’m satisfied with Mainline, the boots still elongate my body and they are very nice quality. I would recommend you try them on in store before making your online purchase. What I really like about SW OTK boots is the leather itself, the suede is so smooth and soft. Also they fit very comfortably with 1″ hidden wedge.
Pheww, it’s a very long post today but hope you enjoy it! Happy Monday!
