17 Mar Morocco | Essaouira

Essaouira – a lovely coastal town, about 2 hours away from the hustle and bustle in Marrakech and to all Game of Thrones fans, you know you just gotta come to visit this place – Astapor. People were more friendly and cats were more lazy. Just strolling and shopping around the cute little shops…nobody bothered to get into the battle of haggling and bargaining.

We randomly picked a seafood stall for lunch. I wasn’t sure if we were too highly alert, we were quite tensed up to make sure we didn’t get ripped off for what we chose. I know that’s a bad habit and why couldn’t we just relax a bit… The grilled seafood were delicious and no surprise to see cats around waiting for the feast from the leftovers.

I could watch cats the furry friends for a whole day. I find they might be the most fortunate cats in Morocco. They were well fed, extremely laid back and a lot more friendlier than the cats we met in Fez.

We didn’t bother looking for specific places to visit. Walking along the coast, taking in sea breeze and immersing in the Game of Thrones scenes…probably the best ways to explore this town.

If you want to do a day trip from Marrakech, definitely put Essaouira on your list. You can arrange car hire from local tours but the public CTM bus commute was very comfortable and easy to commute. If you don’t know how to get tickets, just ask your hotel to arrange the booking a day in advance for you.
