Capella Singapore

I got a few friends living in Singapore who told me Capella is their dream wedding venue location. I was so eager to find out why and set high expectations. The setting is so beautiful and it’s one of the most luxurious escapes in Singapore. We were lucky to be spoiled and stayed there for 2 nights and enjoyed an awesome vacation there. Let’s find out!

Capella is housed in restored 19th century British Colonial buildings and it offers a total of 112 suites, villas and manors. It’s away from the hustle and bustle from the city and immediately I understand why all the locals I met were saying Capella is on top of their wishlist for a staycation. It seems a little bit out of the way in Sentosa but the property is not located at the very far end of the cove area, remains more convenient than most other Sentosa hotels. They have daily shuttle buses running in every 30mins to bring you across the bridge to VivoCity where you can connect commute to other shopping districts in Singapore. You hardly want to go out if you are staying in Capella anyway. We have joined their anniversary romance package that includes spa treatment and cooking class, along with all other facilities and beautiful landscape, the resort has everything we need, if not more.

My first impression of the villa is how massive it is. It’s functionally divided into areas of sitting, bedroom, bathroom, outdoor patio and also a private plunge pool and outdoor bath.

Huge and beautifully decorated bathroom.Aesop toiletries.

Pool & Surroundings

The award-winning resort is designed by the world-renown Foster+Partners team and the hotel design is an epitome of blending contemporary architecture with traditional context and nature.  The use of orange-red colour for the exteriors is reference to Tanah Merah – Singapore’s lateritic soil, whose colour is reflected in the terracotta roofs of the region’s colonial architecture.

The North Korea United States Summit was held at Capella in 2018. And do you know this is the very first summit between the two countries and the plague showing in this photo is where the two leaders shook their hands?

The pool area is cleverly split into the upper and lower level so they are never too crowded. The view from the deck above was magnificent also.  We came early in the morning before 9 am and could have the entire pool to ourselves.

The most memorable meal was the light lunch we made in the cooking class.

Chef was unbelievably friendly and funny, he reminds me of the comedian Dr. Ken Cheong but the Chef version.

The 1-hour cooking class flew by quickly (wish it’s longer) and we had an amazing time learning this simple quinoa recipe. I guess it impressed me so much because such a simple dish with simple ingredients could taste this great! This may not be the most informative cooking class because Chef did most of the prep work, but that gave us time to ask questions and dress up our plates which I felt more enjoyable to do for a vacation.

Buffet breakfast by the pool was fantastic but the a la carte menu impressed me the most! The salted egg waffles and onsen soft-boiled egg dish were unbelievable! The juice bar was great too that we could customize the drink by combining whatever fruits we liked. Easily we could have a 2-hour long breakfast and I suggest you should! Don’t forget to grab a few Portuguese egg tarts for desserts, they are delectable.

We also quite enjoyed the afternoon tea served in a classy library room up on the 2nd floor in the lobby building. The selection was excellent with finger sandwiches, sweet treats, and even Kaya toasts and Pandan sponge cakes. They were so delicious. It’s complimentary to all guests and served daily, and I highly recommend you not to miss it!

If you may have a chance perhaps you should check out the Chinese restaurant – Cassia. Yet we haven’t got a chance to try it out, we heard very positive reviews about it.

Auriga Spa is very popular among locals and we were also told to make reservations way in advance to secure the couple’s treatment room. My massage therapist was fantastic and she focused on the areas with toughest knots. Wish the massage could be longer. Guests are more than welcome to use the hot tub and lounge facilities for as long as they want. No wonder it’s one of the most relaxing and luxurious spa experiences you can find in Singapore.

Will I recommend this hotel to stay in Singapore? Absolutely! The place is perfect for couples to escape from the busy downtown Singapore and enjoy some quiet quality time together.

Have you stayed at Capella before? Would like to hear about your experience down below.
