Our first stop of the Provence road trip began at Moustiers Saint Marie – the most beautiful provencal village surrounded by tremendous rocky canyon. Quietly strolling through the village with Will, we met the  passionate artist to introduce us the local faïence pottery and had the most delicious lavender honey ice-cream. The hanging gold star suspending between two cliffs added a little more magic to the setting. How did it get up there at the first case?

Hiking up to the Chapel on the top and seeing the view overlooking the village at the golden sunset whilst I was still catching my breath….no other better description than breathtaking I would say.

Moustiers Saint Marie is only 15-20mins away from the massive lavender fields in summer and very easy to explore around. The next day we had a scenic drive and explored the fragrant lavender fields in full bloom.

Our B&B host gave us a road map to drive along Gorges du Verdon – the river canyon formed by the Verdon River. Kayaking would be the fun activity to do but we chose to cruise around the rim to get a taste of the gorgeous region with signature turquoise water and lush green mountains. We made a few stops along our way and the most jaw dropping was we saw a few rock climbers on the edge of the cliff. O man…I was sweating and Will was brave enough to get close to the lady who’s taking a picture of her partner climbing down on the other side.

Make sure you plan some time around this region and perhaps consider staying a couple more days if you are into outdoor activities. Provence covers a wide region and it might not be possible to get to all places in one trip, but that’s ok…travel slow is the key to enjoy the countryside.
