13 Aug Who’s #GirlBoss

I have completely indulged into this book – #GirlBoss by the founder and CEO of Nasty Gal – Sophia Amoruso. It’s about her life and how she started her eBay vintage store and transformed into her fashion empire in less than 7 years. Given that I was graduated with a business degree, I hardly read any business book. Most of them scream text books to me and I can’t make myself finish reading the last chapter.  What I enjoy about this book is it’s entertaining and not making me fall asleep with a bunch of advices and concepts that are difficult to digest. Her vision is so clear and simple. “#GirlBoss is in charge of her own life, she gets what she wants because she works for it.

I especially like the part that she relates herself as introvert. It simply speaks to me because I’m also an introvert. I keep nodding my head as she thinks nowadays extroverts are superior and projected as leadership material from manager’s eyes, introverts cannot catch up and have a less chance to get ahead of climbing up the career ladder. She again confirms that introverts can be a leader and have tendencies that are valuable and influential in the business world. Wow, that’s such a boost of motivation and she gives me a new perspective on assessing my work process and behaviors.

Sophia seems like a role model to many young girls as she creates huge success in a very short period of time but that’s not the reason why I like this book. I still don’t believe in luck and shortcut to success. You have to be determined and create your own magic of success with hard work and persistence. Let me know if you have also read this book and how you like it. Cheers!
